Wildcard - Gameweek 33

If you've still got your Wildcard it's likely going to be used this week or in Gameweek 34, depending on whether you have your Bench Boost Chip left.

If you have your Bench Boost it's best to Wildcard this week and Bench Boost in Gameweek 34.

If you don't have Bench Boost, you can Wildcard this week or next week depending on how your team is looking for Gameweek 33.

The key teams to concentrate on are Liverpool (1), Man United (2), Man City (2), Newcastle (1) and Brighton (3). The number in brackets denotes how many Double Gameweeks they have left this season.

Newcastle don't Double until Gameweek 36, but in 34 they have Southampton (h) which is a nice fixture for Bench Boost. Despite a lack of clean sheets recently I'd still include Kieran Trippier (£6.2m)Sven Botman (£4.5m) is nice and cheap for the bench, but if you have extra funds you could look at Fabian Schär (£5.1m) instead, he has higher goal threat but is currently yellow flagged.

I'd be tempted to include Alexander Isak (£6.8m) as well, although there's a case to be made to start with Ollie Watkins (£7.7m) instead and transfer Isak in later. Both players have been great recently, but Watkins is still a bit more secure minutes wise.

For Man City it's fairly obvious that Erling Haaland (£12.2m) should be included. I just don't think it's worth offering an advantage to your opponents by not including him. Because City are still in the Champions League there may be *some* rotation around Gameweek 35 and 36 so Ederson (£5.4m) might be the safest defensive pick. After that it depends which slots you want to fill. I'd be looking at Rúben Dias (£6.0m) in defence, or Jack Grealish (£7.2m) in midfield.

You're also going to need a second goalkeeper for the Bench Boost. I quite like David De Gea (£5.0m). The only issue is, when Man City and Man United both Double in 37, you'd only be able to play one of Ederson or De Gea. It might be easier to opt for someone like Lukasz Fabianski (£4.9m) or Bernd Leno (£4.6m) instead who you can leave on the bench after Gameweek 34.

For Man United I'd definitely include Marcus Rashford (£7.1m) who is fit and available again. Luke Shaw (£5.1m) is the most nailed defender given he will always play left back or left centre back. I still like Bruno Fernandes (£9.5m) but he is a slight doubt for Spurs in Gameweek 33 and is quite expensive if you also need to Bench Boost, so he might be one to leave out.

For Liverpool it's easy - Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) are the top picks. I'd also consider Ibrahima Konaté (£4.8m) as a cheap defender alternative to Botman, or even as well as.

With Brighton things haven't changed for a while, the three main midfielders are still great options - Solly March (£5.2m), Kaoru Mitoma (£5.6m), and Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5m). In defence it's either Pervis Estupiñán (£4.8m) or Lewis Dunk (£4.7m). Whether you want three attackers, or to include a defender is really up to you - they're all great value.

📈 Transfer Activity 📉

It's time to start saying goodbye to Harry Kane (£11.5m) and Bukayo Saka (£8.5m). They've been transferred out by 255,960 and 112,903 FPL managers respectively already this week.

They haven't just become bad FPL options overnight, but for the remaining six Gameweeks they have no Double Gameweeks to come. Kane is also holding a lot of money people need for other moves, and Saka is taking up a midfield spot in a position that is stacked.

I don't think either is a must sell this week, but both are fine to transfer out in either Gameweek 33 or 34 as needed.

Diogo Jota (£8.8m) is proving popular with 141,007 new owners this week. I certainly get the appeal, he's low owned and has returned four goals and one assist in his last two games.

I think for most squads, finding £8.8m for a forward is going to be tricky. For me he's not someone you should consider as an alternative to Salah, more so an addition. He's started all of the last five games which is promising, but it seems unlikely that Darwin Núñez (£8.7m) will continue to be benched every game, especially with games every 3-4 days for the next four matches. I like Jota as a punt, but I don't think we should be ripping our teams apart to bring him in.

👑 Captaincy 👑

For most of us it's a straight up choice between Haaland vs Arsenal (h) and Salah vs West Ham (a).

Although on paper Salah has the easier fixture, Haaland is playing an Arsenal team that has conceded seven goals in their last three matches.

This doesn't mean I think Man City are going to steam roll Arsenal, but they're fully capable of getting a couple of goals at least.

West Ham on the other hand have kept three clean sheets in their last five matches and are having a good run of form right now. I definitely think Liverpool score but it's not going to be an easy game. Essentially I'm not sure there's enough upside with Salah to justify backing against Haaland.

If you're someone looking for differential options though - Salah (c) could be the way!

💪 My Team 💪

I'm now on 9 green arrows in a row - the luck has really been with me recently. Current rank: 52,012.

After a successful Free Hit, it's back to looking at my regular team with just one free transfer.

I'm not completely happy about playing double Chelsea defence, but I think in isolation Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.7m) is better than Ederson, and Ben Chilwell (£5.9m) is better than the alternatives on the bench.

My transfer plan has been set for a while. I was aiming to roll in Gameweek 33 before taking a hit to do Kane, Martin Ødegaard (£6.7m) and Chilwell to Sam Greenwood (£4.0m), Salah and Alexander-Arnold in Gameweek 34.

The problem is, I only have £0.1m spare for these moves and Salah might go up in price tonight, while Chilwell goes down. That means I likely have to bring the hit forward and get Salah and Greenwood tonight - not ideal, but if it means I can get Alexander-Arnold for his double, I feel it's worth it.

That will leave me with 10 Double Gameweek players in Gameweek 34, with just Trippier having a Single Gameweek.

Otherwise - captaincy the same as above, even if I bring Salah in, I'm just going to captain Haaland.
